The Power of Imagery

Positive visualisation or imagination of the shot plays such an important part in all aspects of golf, from a 250-yard drive to lobbing a ball over the bunker or even seeing the line of the putt. Visualisation could be the missing link to your perfect game.

"Preparatory phase initialised by a visual picture."

Imagine throwing a golf ball over a house,  then think of throwing another golf ball into a bucket a few feet away using an underarm toss. See and feel the difference in your mind's eye. You have just experienced a preparatory phase initialised by a visual picture.
During visualisation, the eyes work in much the same way passing messages to the brain and muscles, the more accurate and realistic your resolution fits the situation, the more likely the situations will match. Most people need the accuracy of visualisation to properly prepare the mind and body.

"If it's good enough for Jack it must be worth a try!"

Jack Nicklaus…

‘I never hit a shot, even in practice, without having a very sharp, in-focus picture of it in my head. It’s like a colour movie. First, I “see” the ball going there: the path, trajectory, and shape, even its behaviour on landing. Then there’s a sort of fade-out, and the next scene shows me making the kind of swing that will turn the previous images into reality. Only at the end of this short, private, Hollywood spectacular do I select a club and step up to the ball.’
